The pressure loss (l*R) caused by friction in a straight pipe section with the length l and the internal diameter di depends on the density ρ of the water, the average flow velocity v and the pipe friction coefficient λ.
The pipe friction coefficient λ is usually represented as a function of the Reynolds number Re and the relative roughness k/di in the so-called Moody diagram.
