Floor drain

A floor drain is a water drain installed in the floor. In German technical terminology, a distinction is made between ceiling drains, bathroom drains, cellar drains and roof drains. While ceiling, bathroom and cellar drains each have odour traps because they are connected to waste water pipes in the building, roof and balcony drains, which are used for rainwater drainage, are designed without odour traps. Only balcony drains in combined systems are also installed with odour traps to protect residents from foul-smelling sewer gases. However, the effects of frost in winter must be taken into account.
