Circulation simulation
Basics of circulation simulation
In recent years, more and more thermal control valves have been used for hydronic balancing of circulation systems in drinking water installations. It has been shown in the past that the conventional methods of pipe network calculation cannot sufficiently ensure or prove temperature maintenance in the pipe network for this valve technology. The reason for this lies in the dynamics of such pipe networks. If, for example, the pump characteristic curve does not exactly meet the desired operating point (common in practice), the operating point does not shift along the pipe network characteristic curve as in the case of static valve technology, but rather the entire characteristic curve of the network, the volume flows and the Kv values of the regulating valves change.
As the conventional pipe network calculation only maps a static/theoretical case, new methods are required for such networks to verify the proper functioning of the network.
For this reason, Dendrit has developed a circulation simulation in collaboration with Münster University of Applied Sciences, which is based on the previous pipe network calculation and is able to model the real operating case as accurately as possible.
As this simulation not only takes into account the design range of the valves, simulations can also be carried out for the disinfection case, for example, thus ensuring that the necessary temperatures are reached throughout the network.
