Individual pipe sections are hydraulically equalised with each other by means of pipe regulating valves. The flow rate is defined via the setting values on the balancing valve.

Operating principle of the balancing valve The above diagram clearly shows that, unlike differential pressure regulators, the balancing valve cannot guarantee a constant pressure at partial load. The setpoint value for the full load case (right limit edge) is lower in the partial load case (centre line). The thermostatic valve must therefore reduce more pressure at the consumer.
