Flow velocities (design options for drinking water)

The maximum permissible flow velocities per medium and section type are displayed in the Flow velocities area under Calculation.

  • In the column vmax, you can adjust the maximum flow velocities for individual sections, subdivided according to the media PWC, PWC-AB, PWH and PWH-C. Changing the tab takes you to the definitions of the individual media.
    Note:
Compliance with the maximum permissible flow velocities is verified in the Sections window of the respective flow path.
  • By activating the checkbox Dimension storey and individual supply lines for 2 m/s, the storey and individual supply lines are dimensioned with a flow velocity of 2 m/s. All other line types are dimensioned as before. All other pipe types are still dimensioned using the pipe friction pressure gradient available in the flow path.
    Important:
For a successful pipe network calculation with this option, the available pressure in the most unfavourable extraction flow path must be at least 5 hPa/m. If the Main distribution pipes tend to be smaller checkbox is also activated, the available pressure in the most unfavourable extraction flow path must be at least 8 hPa/m.

Based on the dimensioning with a fixed flow velocity for floor and individual supply lines, dimensioning with the same nominal pipe sizes is possible. In contrast, in a standard dendrite pipe network calculation, the floor and individual supply lines are dimensioned primarily using the pipe friction pressure gradient available in the flow path. This means that, despite similar pipe network structures, the nominal diameters can be different in comparison, depending on the position of a wet room in the pipe network.

  • By activating the Main distribution pipes tend to be smaller checkbox, an attempt is made to dimension the nominal diameters in the first sections of the main distribution smaller compared to a previously performed "basic calculation". In return, the subsequent sections may be larger. The aim of this design option is to improve the flow conditions under partial load.
    Important:
For a successful pipe network calculation, the available pressure in the most unfavourable extraction flow path must be at least 5 hPa/m. If the checkbox for floor and individual supply lines dimensioned for 2 m/s is also activated, the available pressure in the most unfavourable extraction flow path must be at least 8 hPa/m.
