Design of a diaphragm expansion vessel
To design a diaphragm expansion vessel, several calculation parameters are required, which are distributed over three components.
| Values required for the design | In CALHYDRA | Additional information |
|---|---|---|
| Heat output of the heat generator | Output power (W) | The preset standard value can be adjusted. |
| Flow temperature | Flow temperature (°C) | The value corresponds to the flow temperature set in the design options or the options wizard. The fluid temperature is used to calculate the percentage expansion of the fluid in relation to the lowest system temperature. |
| Water content of the heat generator | Content (litres) | The value is optional. |
| Maximum setpoint setting of the temperature controller | Max. Temperature controller (°C) | The preset standard value can be adjusted and influences the maximum expansion of the fluid. |
| Safety temperature limiter | Safety temperature limiter (°C) | The preset default value can be adjusted and specifies the setting value of the safety temperature limiter installed on the heat generator. The set value must be at least 5 K above the . If the setting value of the safety temperature limiter is above 100 °C, the calculation of the evaporation pressure is affected. |

| System volume | System volume (litres) | The displayed value is calculated. |
| Expansion volume | Expansion volume (litres) | The displayed value is calculated. |
| Static pressure | Static pressure (hPa) | The displayed value is calculated. The static pressure results from the difference in height between the highest component in the system and the installation height of the diaphragm expansion vessel. This results in approx. 100 hPa per metre of height difference. |
| Evaporation pressure | Evaporation pressure (hPa) | The displayed value is calculated. |
| Upstream pressure | Initial pressure (hPa) | The displayed value is calculated. |
| Final pressure | Final pressure (hPa) | The displayed value is calculated. |
| Water supply | Water supply (litres) | The displayed value is calculated. |
| Minimum nominal volume | Minimum nominal volume (litres) | The displayed value is calculated. |
| Maximum filling pressure | Maximum filling pressure (hPa) | The displayed value is calculated. |
| Minimum filling pressure | Minimum filling pressure (hPa) | The displayed value is calculated. |
| Product pre-pressure | Product pre-pressure (hPa) | The displayed result value is taken from the product data of the designed diaphragm expansion vessel. |
| Maximum permissible operating pressure | Max. permissible operating pressure (hPa) | The displayed result value is taken from the product data of the designed diaphragm expansion vessel. |
| Nominal product volume | Nominal product volume (litres) | The displayed result value is taken from the product data of the designed diaphragm expansion vessel. The designed product must have a larger nominal product volume than the minimum nominal volume of the diaphragm expansion vessel. |
| Values required for the design | In CALHYDRA | Additional information |
|---|---|---|
| Response pressure of the safety valve | Set pressure (hPa) | The displayed value is taken from the product data of the designed safety valve. The response pressure of the safety valve corresponds to the maximum permissible operating pressure of the diaphragm expansion vessel used. |
